ALLAPATTAH DUPLEX

MIAMI, FLORIDA

Originally farmland in the outskirts of Downtown Miami, Allapattah is a working-class neighborhood in Miami’s urban core, and one of the oldest residential areas in the city. The neighborhood is mainly composed of early 20th century single-family homes; however, the project refers to the symmetry, scale, materials and proportion of existing 1920s and 1930s multi-family buildings (duplexes and quadplexes) to respect the greater context of the neighborhood and advocate for a typology at risk.

While the exterior is a canvas for an ever-changing play of light, reflections and shadows, the interior is the result of a constant search for simplicity and appreciation of the ordinary through careful compositions.
